You have a choice of two routes from Worsley Old Hall to Blackpool .
The shorter more 'Direct route' avoids steep inclines, and a longer
‘Scenic’ route which is more challenging to car and driver.
The
schedule for Control opening and closing is based on an average speed of
18mph for the Direct route and 26mph on the longer Scenic route.
Both
routes avoid built up areas, as far as possible, and travel through the
West Pennine Moors and Belmont before taking in the Ribble valley and
the Fylde.
The
organisers may also organise a supplementary start for cars manufactured
prior to 1919 in the Blackburn area with a route of some 36miles with
control openings based on a 12mph average.
There will be a lunch halt
at the excellent Plough Hotel, where entrants may purchase refreshments
en route. They have kindly offered a choice from two
menus, either the special lunch
or the Table d'hote.
Having previously sampled their food, it is well worth the stop!

BREAKING NEWS...
We have just secured a fitting finish venue for this the
50th Manchester to Blackpool Classic Car Run.
In the early years the Manchester Blackpool had finished
at the Royal Lancashire Showground at the rear of Stanley Park and it
was felt that the park would be a lovely finish for this special year.
The venue will enhance the finish and provide a fantastic
vista with cars displayed around the Italian Gardens.

The cars will travel north along Blackpool Promenade
pass the Tower and turn right at North Pier along Talbot Road turning
right at Devonshire Road on to Whitegate Drive and left in to Mere
Road. This brings the vehicles out by the main entrance to Stanley Park
which the cars will enter along a tree lined drive to the Italian
gardens and left under the finish banner.
To celebrate the 50th event the Lancashire Automobile
Club will give two tickets for afternoon cream tea in the Art Deco cafe
to each entrant. Further tickets will be available at a cost of £6.00 if
there are more than two people in the car. The Cafe will also provide a
venue for presentations in the event of inclement weather.
Please forward the regulations to others who may be interested in this
classic event.
"The
Navigators Handbook
(pdf format) contains details of the navigational techniques often
found on classic events. The Great Manchester to Blackpool uses a
combination of descriptive instructions and 'tulips' as set out in
this handbook. The instructions are simple and easy to follow and
make the event more enjoyable. On the event you will also be given a
set of notes on the places of interest you will pass through. These
notes give brief histories and highlight points of interest.
Other
Lancashire Automobile Club classic events, in particular the 'Fellsman'
use more sophisticated sets of instructions designed to challenge the
navigators skills.
The
'Coast to Coast' uses the same type of instruction as the Great
Manchester to Blackpool and you may wish to enter this event which
occurs later in the year."
As always, a big thank you
to the countless energetic volunteers and marshals, without whom this
(and all our other) events just could not take place.
We are also indebted to
our generous sponsors and supporters whose continuing support means that
this event moves forward each year:
